Ulead’s DVD Movie Factory 5 is the company’s entry level DVD creation tool. It comes complete with menu templates and offers the capability to create DVDprojects in a variety of ways. Ulead updates the application almost every year, and within this review, we’ll take a look at some of the new features to this application, starting with the new Launcher. While the application is targeted at the entry level, it does offer some features that were considered professional just a few years ago.
DVD MovieFactory 5′s Launcher features six buttons on the left side of the screen. These include Video Disc, Slideshow Disc, Import, Edit Disc, Copy Disc, and Disc Tools. Each of the different buttons enables you to create different projects, which are shown to the right when you click the different buttons. This keeps every task accessible in one unified area.
For example, if you click Video Disc, you have several options to choose from, including create New Project, Open Existing Project, Straight capture to Disc (for those who just want to transfer video straight to DVD), Straight Capture to BD disc, Burn from Disc Image and Burn DVD folders to Disc. Other project options are available via the other buttons. In this fashion, everything is just a few clicks away, and the software will walk you through all aspects of a project’s creation, be it a DVD, HD DVD, or even a simple music DVD.
Disc features: In keeping with the march of technology, DVD Movie Factory 5 supports the creation of both HD DVD and Bluray Discs. This is probably the most notable feature to the application. Ulead has taken a more proactive approach and built support for both formats, even though discs to burn the media to and drives to play back the discs are still not widely available. This is noted in the Create video Disc window. In addition to the widely used video formats, such as DVD, VCD, SVCD, and DVDRAM, there are buttons to support both HD DVD and Blu Ray, as well as the capability to perform a straight capture to Blu Ray DVDs.
